LNG as marine Fuel - the first step towards deep-sea shipping GHG reduction

SGMF has released a video explaining why Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) is currently the only viable solution available that can cut emissions from deep-sea shipping as newer, cleaner options are developed.

The video describes how LNG can provide a clear pathway to fuels that will enable the industry to meet the International Maritime Organization’s target to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Shipping currently represents around 3% of total global emissions, that contribution could change significantly as other sectors switch to renewables and the shipping fuel mix remains unchanged.

'LNG as a marine fuel: Safety and Operational Guidelines - Bunkering' Version 3 - Introduction

The Society's flagship publication ‘LNG as a marine fuel: Safety and Operational Guidelines – Bunkering’ has been revised and updated extensively with seven years of operational experience. This edition is taking a new and holistic approach to LNG bunkering.

The reader is taken through a journey starting from the Design stage of the vessel and the supply bunkering facility, via the Planning and Preparation stages of the bunkering location and operations to be completed by the fuelling Operational stage of the LNG-fuelled vessel.

Introduction to BASiL

This is an instructional video to help BASiL (SGMF’s automated Bunkering Area Safety information for LNG model) users complete their data input while informing them of the physics behind their selections. BASiL is used to consistently control bunkering hazards by defining a safety zone that is dependent on the type of bunkering activity being performed.
